West Street are Best of British

12 Gymnasts from West Street Acro competed at the British Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships in Stoke on Trent on Sunday 25th November and Brought home 2 Gold and 3 Silver medals!!

Luke Price and Lowri Thomas competed confidently against strong competition to become the Mixed Pairs British Champions at their first attempt at British International level. After taking the Bronze medal last year Sophie Bevan, Katie Jenkins and Mari Davies improved on their past achievements by taking home the silver in the large International Women’s groups category with 2 great performances. Lauren Daniel and Bronwen Maine kept up their consistency of excellent performances by making the British Finals for a third time in a row. Emily Gazzi, Lowri Evans and Rhiannon Maine came agonisingly close to the Bronze medal missing out by just 0.25, which is really encouraging for this new partnership.

Another new partnership Lia Richards and Jessica Morris performed a beautiful Balance routine and will be ones to watch for the near future.

Welsh gymnasts win 2 British Veterans titles, 2 silver medals and a bronze

Veterans team with medals 4 Welsh Gymnasts from West Street Gymnastics centre in Wales competed at the 24th British Veterans Championships at New College, Leicester on SATURDAY OCTOBER 1st 2011 and achieved 2 British Titles (Women’s Pairs and Women’s Groups Acro categories) and also took a silver medal in the women’s over 19 Artistic beginners and a silver and a Bronze medal in the over 30′s intermediate Artistic competition. The gymnasts also took 4th in the team artistic competition and 4th in the Women’s Pairs Acro.

The day was very busy for the 4 gymnasts who all competed in the artistic and acrobatic disciplines which all took place between 9am and 12pm on the day.

The Acro pairs section was the first discipline of the day for the gymnasts which was dominated by Lisa Price and Claire Warren who defended their title from last year with 1.5 marks to spare. Lisa Thomas and Sophie John performed a very clean floor and came 4th narrowly missing out on the bronze medal. The Acro trios was next where there was another title to defend from last year and Lisa Thomas, Lisa Price and Claire Warren this year upped their difficulty and performed a pitch double back somersault to open their routine and went on to win the Gold medal by over a whole mark.

Next up was the artistic Gymnastics section where Lisa Thomas took the silver medal in the over 19 beginners artistic category and also achieved the highest score on the floor. Lisa Price and Claire Warren battled it out in the over 30′s intermediate category and took 2nd and 3rd position respectively with Lisa scoring the highest mark of their category on the vault.

Rebecca Newton – Grade 14
Sofie Morgan and Elle Robinson – Grade 13
Jodie Bates – Grade 12
Jessica Morris – Grade 11

All the girls competed really well and all five narrowly missed achieving distinctions. Sofie went on to represent West Area in the Welsh Grade 13 Final.

Commiserations to Menna Watkins who unfortunately broke her arm just two weeks before she was due to compete her Grade 14. However, she has bounced back and is well on her way to recovery!

Celtic Cup 2011 Success

Congratulations to all 13 West Street gymnasts who competed in Cork, Ireland on 12th March 2011 and brought home 11 GOLD’s and 2 Silver medals!!

1st time international Acro competitors Luke Price, Mari Davies and Zoe Jones performed exceptionally well to receive Gold and Silver medals in their categories!

West Street played a huge part in this year’s Celtic Cup International

NDP team

Grade 3 Mixed Pair Luke Price & Emily Stock, and Grade 1 trio Heather Carter, Lauren Daniel & Bronwen Maine performed fantastic routines and jointly scored the highest mark of the day out of all of the NDP competitors!! And both took GOLD medals in their category’s!

A great contribution was made by one of our newest partnership’s Sophie Bevan, Katie Jenkins and Mari Davies who scored the highest balance NDP score of the day to take home the gold medal in the Grade 3 Team.

Lia Richards, Charlotte Thomas and Rhiannon Maine took GOLD in both of their routines, and were the only Welsh gymnasts to perform both of their routines (Balance and Dynamic) bringing an excellent contribution to the team.

Lowri Evans and Zoe Jones were the last Welsh performers of the day and performed a new routine with great confidence to take team Silver at the Grade 2 category.

Once again thank you to the support of the parents, and especially the coaches who have worked so hard to achieve the success of the gymnasts at this International. :)
