West Street Gymnasts Win British Medals for Swansea Schools

P1130292 UBoth Olchfa and Penyrheol schools were successful at the 2016 British Schools Acrobatic Gymnastics finals.  Ben Dawson and Bronwen Maine of Olchfa regained the Gold medal they won last year in the Over 14 mixed pairs section.  Penyrheol, who entered for the first time,  gained Silver in the Over 14 Group which consisted of Danielle Griffiths, Becky Davies, Tamara Smith, Georgina Matthews, Lily Thornhill and Olivia Street and also Bronze in the Under 14 Women’s Pairs with Aimee Griffiths and Olivia Street.  Miss Heard the PE Teacher at Penerheol said she felt all the gymnasts performed exceptionally well and she was sure the whole school would be proud of their achievements.  The gymnasts are all members of West Street Gymnastics Club in Gorseinon.

Squad for Post

On 20th Feb 2016 Acrobatic Gymnasts from West Street Gorseinon traveled to the National Sports Center of Wales in Cardiff to compete in the Welsh NDP finals. Once again they demonstrated that they are the leading club in Wales by winning 8 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. 33 gymnasts qualified to represent Wales in the Celtic Cup taking place this year in Northern Ireland. The gymnasts were accompanied by coaches Sophie Bevan, Katie Jenkins and Sophie John. Katie stated “we are really proud of what the gymnasts have achieved and it is just reward for the many hours they spend in the gym developing their skills and fitness levels”. We would like to thank all our sponsors, committee members, parents and the local council whose help is greatly appreciated.
